We are able to transport up to two wheelchairs in our cargo hold. Please note that entitlement to transportation only exists when the wheelchair has been booked in time. This is due to the limited cargo space and the dangerous goods regulations (e.g. wet batteries).

Limited cargo hold capacity

Please be aware that for reasons of space, we must transport your wheelchair or walking frame in the cargo hold. At the destination airport you will be given your wheelchair either directly at the aircraft or at baggage reclaim. For special services offered by the airports for passengers with restricted mobility (e.g. disabled parking spaces), please also refer to the websites of the respective airports.

Unfortunately we only have limited cargo space available. Wheelchairs should therefore be collapsible. Due to design considerations such as the size of the cargo hold and of its hatch as well as the weight loading limits of aircraft cargo holds, the transportation of battery-operated wheelchairs in particular is in some circumstances not possible.

Please note that battery-operated wheelchairs whose battery cannot be removed for transportation can only be transported upright. They must therefore not exceed the dimensions of the aircraft’s cargo hold hatch (for example: B737-700 max. height 0.88 m, max. breadth 1.2 m; Airbus A319 max. height 1.15 m, max. breadth: 1.2 m). Unfortunately it can also arise that loading and unloading is not possible at some airports due to a lack of the correct loading equipment.

Dangerous goods regulations

Please note that wet batteries may not be transported. Dry and gel batteries can however be transported without problem. Due to the dangerous goods regulations, entitlement to transportation of your wheelchair only exists when your booking has been confirmed in writing by Germania.
