The largest of the Canary Islands, Tenerife, was named after the volcano Pico del Teide, which used to be referred to as white mountain by the locals. Tenerife is a year-round attraction for travelers in search of beach vacations, hikes through the island’s wilderness, and fun in the water.
Tenerife is chock-full with miradores, or vista points. The most spectacular panorama is that of the world at your feet from high up on Pico del Teide. The platform at 3,550 meters above sea level can be reached comfortably by funicular in only eight minutes. Other breathtaking vistas can be found at the wildly romantic Teno Mountains in the west and in the Anaga Mountains in the east.
Also worth a visit are the idyllic mountain village of Masca, the small town of La Orotava with its historic city center, and precious Icod de los Vinos with a dragon tree which is centuries old.
Your children will find entertainment at Loro Parque with its innumerable parrots, some of which are endangered species, and Siam Park, the largest water park in Europe.
To go the extra mile, book a whale watching tour at the port of Los Gigantes or along the Costa Adeje. The Blue Boat quality seal stands for gentle whale watching.
If you find your vacation on Tenerife has ended too soon, you will not be alone. There is a remedy: Go back! Germania takes you there non-stop from Zurich.
